Have you always been an IT Consultant, or has your role changed over the years?
I started as an IT Project Manager in 2012, but my career has taken me across multiple industries including lighting technology, construction, and even concrete. This diverse background gives me unique perspective when approaching IT projects at Nion.
Notable Projects and Achievements
Would you like to share any of your previous work experience?
I’m particularly proud of my work on the ERTMS signaling system for Öresundsbron (the Øresund Bridge), where we successfully completed Phase 1 of integrating Danish and Swedish rail systems with European standards. This complex collaboration between Bane Danmark and Öresundsbron at Peberholm was a career highlight. I’ve also managed projects for Sony Mobile, giving me valuable experience in different corporate environments.
Unique Value to Nion
What special skills do you bring to your position?
Coming without formal IT education has actually become my strength – I’ve developed exceptional skills in asking the right questions and leveraging my team’s expertise. My approach creates space for collaborative problem-solving rather than top-down solutions. I also bring cross-industry best practices that can spark innovation in our IT projects.
Why Nion Called to Me
What made you decide to join Nion?
The people and culture were the deciding factors. From my first interactions, I could tell Nion was a place that values its employees and fosters genuine collaboration. It’s rare to find an organization that feels both professionally challenging and personally supportive.
Looking Ahead at Nion’s Future
What excites you about Nion’s position in the market?
The recent merger creating Nion presents incredible opportunities. We’re positioned to combine the strengths of multiple organizations into something greater than the sum of its parts. I’m excited to help shape how we leverage this potential in the Scandinavian market and beyond.
First Year Roadmap
What are your plans for your first 300 days?
I’ve hit the ground running with my current assignment, which provides both challenges and learning opportunities. Beyond delivering for my client, maintaining my PMP certification is a priority to ensure I bring best-in-class project management to every engagement.
Beyond Project Management
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I’m passionate about dance and champagne – the perfect pairing of movement and celebration! Gardening is my peaceful counterbalance to project management, where I can watch things grow naturally without Gantt charts or deadlines.
Closing Thoughts
Katarina’s unique cross-industry experience and collaborative approach make her an invaluable addition to Nion’s Malmö team. Her ability to bridge different professional worlds while maintaining focus on team empowerment exemplifies the kind of leadership that drives successful project.
