Developing a Case Management system for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to facilitate return- and readmission workflows globally between UN partner countries

Nion has been a supplier to IOM, a UN related organization, for the last three years. We have developed an electronic case management system comprising several web applications. The system has been designed to provide secure and standardized support for managing return- and readmission processes between UN partner countries around the world.

The system facilitates return- and readmission processes globally through enabling the exchange of information and documentation for irregular migrants seeking readmission to their countries of origin. The system is built on open-source technologies that are agnostic to specific commercial products. It consists of modern web-based applications that provide a comprehensive workflow management system and offers interoperability potential with other domestic systems to optimize decision making processes and service delivery.

What solution did we deliver?

  • A global and standardized system that enables secure and efficient case management between UN partner countries
  • A system that is easily customizable to incorporate and connect new countries
  • A package solution that can, rapidly and affordably, be deployed to new countries
  • Better security and management, through standardizing and centralizing user account administration into a single platform
  • Reducing system maintenance costs through the engagement of re-usable modules and components
  • Improving compliance with information security and personal data protection requirements

What were the key deliverables?

  • Successful implementation of a global and standardized case management system and web applications in several countries, e.g. within the EU, Asia and the Middle East
  • Enabling clear and transparent workflows, e.g. through in-system notifications and alerts to comply with processing time limits and deadlines
  • Offering interactive and integrated tools to support the process including the scheduling of interviews, requests for additional information as well as correspondence management
  • Enabling data validation at source, leading to more accurate and complete readmission applications and increasing data quality for improved statistics and analysis
  • Integrating monitoring and reporting into a single platform to provide a global view of the entire return- and readmission landscape
