“We are the generation that can make peace with land.” These words from the official UN World Environment Day campaign resonate deeply with us at Nion. Since 1973, this important day has been a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals alike—to pause, reflect, and take meaningful steps toward protecting the planet we call home.
This year, the spotlight is on plastic pollution—a global challenge with urgent consequences. More than 460 million tonnes of plastic are produced every year, yet less than 10% is recycled. The rest impacts our ecosystems, harms biodiversity, and threatens our health. It’s a crisis we can’t ignore—and at Nion, we’re choosing to respond with action.
Skopje Office: A Local Commitment with Global Impact
One of the ways we live our environmental values is through everyday practices in our Skopje office. More than a year ago, we reignited our recycling efforts with a clearer structure and renewed passion. We partnered with local initiatives such as Selektiraj otpad and REDI to install recycling bins in every kitchen, making it easy for teammates to contribute daily.
We’ve also taken big steps toward sustainable electronic waste disposal. We partnered with a certified e-waste management company to responsibly discard unusable tech gear and encouraged employees to bring old electronics from home. Functional devices we no longer use were donated to the local initiative Doniraj kompjuter, helping to bridge the digital divide in our community.

Another important practice at our Skopje office is that we invest in reusable cutlery, glassware, and serving dishes. This way, we avoid using single-use plastics. We also have a designated parking spot for bikes and scooters. This encourages employees to use these, or public transport, to get to the office. Through our consulting work, we also help our clients on their own digital transformation journeys, indirectly reducing their environmental footprint too.
ISO 14001: Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Nion, sustainability is part of how we work—not just a goal, but a mindset. Our ISO 14001 certification reflects our structured approach to minimizing environmental impact through a certified Environmental Management System (EMS).
We were officially re-certified in March 2025, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to improving resource use, reducing waste, and optimizing our operations for long-term environmental health. Led by our Environmental & Sustainability Manager, Filippa Sjöstrand, we continuously engage teams across Nion to keep sustainability at the core of our daily work—while inspiring partners and clients to do the same.

A Shared Vision Across All Offices
We are committed to doing our part for the environment. We believe that by working together, we can help create a sustainable future for all. As we celebrate World Environment Day, let’s remember that protecting our planet is a collective responsibility that starts at the individual level!
In the past we have taken part in tree planting initiatives to reforest parts of the country that had suffered fires during that summer.
All in all, we really try hard to do our part for the environment. It goes without saying that our Bitola, Sofia, Malmo, Gothenburg and Stockholm offices share this passion and values.
Looking Ahead
This World Environment Day, we’re reminded that every action—no matter how small—adds up. Whether it’s recycling a bottle, digitizing a form, or rethinking our supply chains, we all have a role to play in building a more sustainable future.
At Nion, we don’t just build IT solutions—we build them responsibly. And we’re committed to improving, growing, and making a difference, year after year.
🌍 Let’s work together to protect the only home we have.
