Data-Driven Decisions for a Better Future: Rädda Barnen’s Analytics Transformation

Rädda Barnen, a leading global non-profit organisation, faced the challenge in collecting, integrating and analysing data from various sources such as finance, marketing and CRM systems and asked Nion for support.

Rädda Barnen (Save the Children, Sweden) is one of the country’s leading non-profit organisations, part of the global Save the Children movement dedicated to improving children’s lives worldwide. Their mission is to ensure that every child has the right to survive, develop, and feel safe, which is a mission that relies heavily on well-informed decisions, transparency, and measurable impact.

As the organisation grew, so did the complexity of its data. Information from various systems, such as finance, marketing, fundraising, and CRM, was scattered across different platforms. This made it increasingly difficult for Rädda Barnen to access consistent insights, track key performance indicators, and make data-driven decisions. They needed a reliable, modern data platform to unify their data and strengthen the foundation of their decision-making.

The Challenge

Rädda Barnen faced several challenges related to data collection and reporting. Their teams were spending significant time gathering information manually from multiple systems, resulting in inconsistent reports and limited visibility into donor behaviour and campaign performance. Without a centralised data environment, opportunities for deeper insight and long-term planning were being missed.

The organisation needed a partner capable of building a robust and flexible data warehouse that would enable reliable data integration, promote collaboration between departments, and improve overall operational efficiency, all while ensuring data quality and security.

The Solution

Nion partnered with Rädda Barnen to design and implement a completely new data warehouse and integration framework from the ground up. Our goal was to create a single, reliable source of truth for all business-critical data, serving as the foundation for their analytics and reporting tools.

To achieve this, our team of data engineers and project managers worked closely with Rädda Barnen’s internal stakeholders to:

  • Integrate data from diverse source systems, including finance, marketing, and CRM, ensuring a seamless and consistent data flow across departments.
  • Develop a modern data warehouse, providing a scalable and secure structure for future analytics.
  • Support IT management and organisation, ensuring that the new solution aligned with long-term data governance and security principles.

Throughout the project, Nion applied an agile delivery approach, allowing incremental progress, continuous feedback, and quick adaptation to evolving needs.

A Trusted Partnership

Our cooperation with Rädda Barnen was more than a technical engagement. It was a collaborative effort to strengthen their capacity for data-driven decisions. The Nion team worked side-by-side with their IT and business units. This ensured knowledge transfer and a smooth transition to the new data environment.

As with many of our partnerships, we provided not only development expertise but also long-term support and advisory services. This helped Rädda Barnen maintain and evolve their data infrastructure over time.

Results and Impact

The new data warehouse has transformed the way Rädda Barnen works with information. With a unified view of their operations, they can now make faster, evidence-based decisions across departments. Reporting processes that once took days are now streamlined, freeing time for strategic analysis and improving transparency across the organisation.

This transformation has enabled Rädda Barnen to focus more effectively on what truly matters, that is creating lasting change for children. With reliable data and accessible insights, their teams can allocate resources more efficiently, evaluate the impact of programmes, and communicate results with clarity to stakeholders and donors.

Success Factors

One of the key reasons behind the project’s success was the close collaboration between Nion and Rädda Barnen. By combining Rädda Barnen’s deep understanding of their mission with Nion’s technical and organisational expertise, the teams established a shared vision from the start. Trust, communication, and a mutual commitment to continuous improvement have been at the heart of this partnership.
