Dorian Slavov – Nion’s first colleague in Bulgaria

Inside Nion

Nion has assembled an incredible team, and being surrounded by such talent and passion is incredibly inspiring.

Dorian Slavov is our first teammate in Sofia, Bulgaria!

Back in 2023 we decided to establish our first office in Bulgaria, Sofia. Dorian joins us as our first teammate there. Dorian, Nion’s first Senior Frontend Engineer in Sofia, brings a wealth of experience to our team. His career spans a variety of fascinating projects, including building massive e-commerce platforms for global brands like The North Face and Vans, and working on developing streaming platforms. His journey has been one of constant learning and exploration.

What Sets You Apart as a Senior Frontend Engineer in Bulgaria?

I’d say my ability to combine deep technical expertise in frontend development with an understanding of user experience sets me apart. I’m passionate about creating interfaces that aren’t just functional but also intuitive and enjoyable to use. Plus, my experience working on such diverse projects has taught me to adapt quickly and find innovative solutions to unique challenges.

Why Did You Choose Nion in Sofia, Bulgaria?

It was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made. From the very first conversation with the Nion team, I could tell there was something special about the company. The people, the vision, and the culture just felt like the perfect fit. There was an immediate sense of alignment in values, and I could see myself growing both personally and professionally here.

Building a Successful Team: What is your Approach?

To me, communication and transparency are the foundations of a successful team. If everyone is aligned and open, it creates an environment where collaboration thrives. I make it a point to stay in touch with my teammates regularly, whether it’s to share ideas, solve problems, or even just check in and see how they’re doing. I also try to bring a positive attitude because I believe it helps set the tone for the entire team.

What Excites You About Your Role at Nion?

Definitely the people I work with. Nion has assembled an incredible team, and being surrounded by such talent and passion is incredibly inspiring. I also love the level of responsibility I’ve been given—it’s the perfect balance of challenging and engaging, which keeps things exciting and helps me grow.

What Motivates You in Your Work Life?

My biggest motivator is the supportive atmosphere at Nion. Knowing that everyone is willing to help out and work together really elevates the team spirit and makes me want to give my best every day. Seeing how our collective efforts impact the projects we’re working on is also hugely rewarding.

My Goals as a Senior Frontend Engineer in Bulgaria

In the next year, I want to immerse myself fully in the company’s processes and projects. My goal is to not only understand how everything works but to also find ways to optimize and improve our products. I want to leave a meaningful impact that benefits both the team and our clients.

What Are You Planning for Your First 100 Days in the Job?

My main focus is to get up to speed with the projects and start making meaningful contributions as soon as possible. I’ll be learning everything I can about our tools, processes, and goals, while also finding opportunities to bring fresh ideas to the table.

What Do You Enjoy Doing in Your Free Time?

I’m a huge basketball fan and love hitting the gym to stay active. When I’m not working out, I like to spend time experimenting with tech or exploring creative projects that let me relax and recharge.
